16.  Does your child have sensitivity to sugar and/or wheat?

Eliminating wheat and sugar is extremely hard if your child is in public or most private schools, especially during birthday parties (whose cakes and cupcakes are made from wheat and sugar).  This can be an extre
mely difficult road for a parent who sees the benefits of a child integrating into his/her community.

You may wish to bring in other options (such as exercises like Dore Achievement Centers, Brain Gym, and Floor Time Therapy) to see if these alternatives build your child’s tolerance to an occasional cupcake.  You may also want to investigate other schools, such as Emerson Waldorf, where no sugar is allowed in the school and special diets are honored.

Gluten (the sub
stance in wheat that typically causes problems) sensitivity is sometimes called nontropical sprue or celiac disease.  Spelt flour often is a good substitute because it does not contain wheat gluten.
